About Me
I am currently in my 11th year of teaching and am so fortunate to teach in the same school I graduated from. I received my degree from Baylor University in Family and Consumer Sciences, specializing in Child Development. I am a proud mother to three boys: Hudson, Brooks, and Ford. I currently teach 8th grade ELAR, high school English I and II, American Literature, and College Prep. I consider it a privilege to get to share my love of literature and writing with my students every day!

Course Descriptions
8th Grade RLA:
This course focuses on development of reading, writing, thinking, and listening skills. The focus on reading skills includes summarization, finding theme, text evidence, text structure, author's purpose, and key ideas vs. details. Composition focus is on personal narrative, argumentative, and informational essay writing. Students are expected to demonstrate grade level proficiency in grammar and conventions with continually assessed growth in these areas. Vocabulary and understanding the importance of each affix as well as context in determining word meaning is also studied.
English I:
This course focuses on development of reading, writing, thinking, listening, and presenting. Composition focus is on argumentative, informational, short story, and poetry writing. The following genres of literature are studied: short story, poetry, novel, drama, and non-fiction. Emphasis is also on grammar/ conventions and vocabulary study.
English II:
This course focuses on development and practice of intermediate composition and critical reading and writing skills. English II examines various literary genres including: Short stories, poetry, drama, non-fiction, and novel studies.
English III:
This course follows the development of literature from the early Native American oral traditions to the colonization of America and its Independence, to America's expansion. Students will study the historic literary works of this time period, as well as speeches and famous authors. Writing compositions will support each study unit.

College Prep.:
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for the upcoming TSI exam in December and the spring semester. The Texas Bridge Program is the online resource to help in meeting the requirements for this class. Students have their own accounts and their progress is monitored. Aside from this test preparation, seniors in this class utilize this period to complete college applications, scholarship writing, and career planning.
